AML-6 Instruments

The AML-6 is a multi-parameter sonde, designed to combine CTD data with other oceanographic parameters such as Dissolved Oxygen, pH, ORP, or Fluorometric sensors. This instrument has six sensor ports on the endcap; the sensor payload is modular and can be field-swapped to meet project requirements. The AML-6 can be equipped with UV Biofouling Control, ensuring data quality and extended maintenance-free time-frames, without contaminating the oceans with TBT or other harmful chemicals.

AML-6, The RTS - (Real-Time) Version

This entry-level version of the AML-6 is commonly deployed on buoys and underwater observatories, as well as on ROVS and AUVs. The AML-6 RTS is designed for real-time data streaming and has neither battery nor memory. A bulkhead connector brings power to the sonde and streams data back to the user.

AML-6, The LGR - (Logger) Version

The industry standard for high-accuracy profiling, the LGR is predominantly used for water column work. This version of the AML-6 comes with a Lithium-ion battery and onboard memory. Data transfer is effected via WiFi or USB connectivity. To maximize reliability, the sonde's power is turned on / off with a magnetic switch rather than a bulkhead connector.

Learn about UV biofouling control

As a renowned leader in marine technology, AML Oceanographic has delivered advanced biofouling solutions that have effectively protected oceanographic equipment for years. Our Street Lamp UV is meticulously designed to safeguard sensors on AML Instrumentation. It can seamlessly integrate, allowing direct connection to the end cap. Furthermore, our Cabled UV system can be adeptly fitted to any underwater equipment, ensuring broad applicability and unmatched protection in marine environments.

Street Lamp UV

Street Lamp UV is designed for integration with the AML Instrumentation. With a compact dimension of 211.3 x 36.8 mm and an energy consumption of just 1 W at 12 V, this UV lamp is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly. It offers an impressive maximum depth rating of 500 meters and can ensure optimal biofouling control within a range of approximately 30 cm. Without moving parts and swappable UV lens, this system epitomizes reliability, boasting a lifespan of over two years to ensure prolonged protection.

Cabled UV Light

The Cabled UV system, available in both vertical and horizontal configurations, is an adaptable solution for diverse underwater applications where the AML-6 has all of its sensor ports occupied. The vertical version has a 3mW HP LED with a 3 m cable and dimensions of 115 x 25.8 mm. The horizontal variant offers customizable LED options tailored for specific needs. Operating within a power range of 12-26 V and equipped with the MCIL6M electrical connector, these units ensure minimal energy consumption and maximum biofouling protection for marine equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The AML-6 is an oceanographic sonde designed for diverse data collection. The AML-6 can take up to 8 sensors on the endcap, allowing modular sensor swapping to suit specific project requirements. Certain sensors, such as CT and SVT, offer dual-parameter measurements.

The primary difference between these two versions of the AML-6 is power and memory. The LGR has a lithium ion battery and onboard memory; the RTS does not.

AML’s modular approach to sensor installation means that an AML-6 can be used with a wide variety of field-swappable sensors. Sound velocity, conductivity, temperature and pressure are the most frequently deployed sensor payloads. However the AML-6 can also accommodate Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, ORP or fluorometric sensors.

These sondes feature a magnetic switch adjacent to the shackle for easy on/off control. The use of a magnetic switch maximizes reliability.
