Fugro Integrates AML MVP for Autonomous USV Surveying
Fugro is integrating AML Oceanographic’s Moving Vessel Profiler (MVP) into its uncrewed surface vessel (USV) platform as part of its ongoing development of autonomous survey capabilities.
Fugro has extensive experience operating MVP systems on conventional survey vessels, making the transition to a USV a natural progression.
“MVP has been a reliable part of our survey operations for years,” says Wim Herijgers, Group Director of Strategy and Transformation. “Integrating it into our USV platform allows us to maintain data quality while moving toward more autonomous workflows.”
MVP systems collect high-resolution water column data without interrupting survey operations - a capability well suited to the efficiency and consistency required for uncrewed deployments.
“Autonomous platforms require systems that can operate reliably with minimal intervention,” says Pete Reedeker, VP of Deployment Systems at AML Oceanographic. “MVP is built for continuous, automated profiling, which makes it a strong fit for this type of application.”
The integration focuses on ensuring compatibility with the USV’s remote operation and deployment systems, while maintaining the performance expected from MVP on crewed vessels.
Initial testing and deployment activities are scheduled to take place throughout 2019.
